April 2022 News

Last month, we started monthly highlights to keep you informed of the latest CPD news, courses, conferences and eLearning.

This April, we’re celebrating the successful deployment of hybrid events, with both in-person and virtual components, and welcoming the return of in-person workshops for midwives and orientations for international medical graduates.

We’re excited to partner once again with long-time collaborators on maternity-care education, the Vancouver Divisions of Family Practice, a re-launch we know you won’t want to miss. Plus, medical education on topics of virtual examinations, cancer care, dermatology, obesity and pregnancy are just a few of our highlighted learning activities this month.

All this activity means we’re growing. We’ve welcomed two new members to the UBC CPD team and are currently recruiting. Check out our current openings.

First hybrid conferences kick off new era of CPD events

The first of UBC CPDs 2022 conferences, delivered both virtually and in person synchronously, have just wrapped to great acclaim. The 12th Annual Whistler Anesthesiology Summit and 57th Annual Family Practice Review 2022, ushered in a new era of CPD conference delivery.

When in-person events were canceled abruptly at the rise of COVID-19, the UBC CPD team quickly pivoted to deliver medical education online. As the pandemic has evolved, so have the delivery formats of learning activities.

“We’ve adapted to meet the learning needs of our community,” says Lindsay Callan, Conference Director.

Midwifery courses return to in-person learning

British Columbia- and Ontario-based midwives attended UBC CPD’s midwifery course in person at the start of the year, signaling a return to in-person skills-based learning. Four more midwifery workshops are scheduled before the end of May. Learn more.

Newly licensed international medical graduates can attend in-person orientations

Practice Ready Assessment - British Columbia (PRA-BC), an assessment program for selected internationally educated family physicians who have completed residencies in Family Medicine outside of Canada, will once again be hosted in-person. UBC CPD will provide an eight-day orientation from April 21 to 29 in person in Vancouver for the spring 2022 cohort of PRA-BC candidates. Assessors training will occur virtually April 1 and 2. UBC CPD and Vancouver Divisions partner again for maternity care education

After a successful collaboration from 2014 to 2019 to develop and deliver the popular But I Don’t Do Maternity Care workshop series, UBC CPD and Vancouver Divisions of Family Practice (VDoFP) are joining forces to re-envision and re-design maternity care education for family physicians in Vancouver. The evolution of the series will consider the current and anticipated needs of the family physician division members, latest evidence and best practices in adult education and CPD, while leveraging the respective strengths of VDoFP, UBC CPD and other key stakeholders. Read more about this partnership and stay tuned for this re-launch soon.
